Kids Academy

Kids Academy is a faith-based after school program in Vuelta Grande with 17 kids from Grades 2-5. The kids receive a nutritious meal; a lesson and activity from the Jesus Storybook Bible; tutoring in math, reading and writing; and we have team-building games and activities. Our VISION for the Academy is to develop future leaders of families, communities, and Guatemala. Our motto is to Love, Encourage, and Inspire. The Academy is based on the following Values: FAITH, RESPONSIBILITY, INTEGRITY, TEAMWORK / COLLABORATION, SERVICE, VISION.

Feeding Center

Chronic malnutrition is a big problem in Guatemala. Chronic malnutrition is where people have food to eat, but the food lacks the necessary vitamins and nutrients needed by the body. Our ministry has started two feeding centers. The first feeding center opened in El Sitio where chronic malnutrition is a major problem. Our ministry has seen a lot of different sicknesses in the children and the best way to treat these issues is to tackle the root cause – malnutrition. The feeding center in El Sitio serves those that are most at risk: children 0-10 years of age and pregnant mothers. We are currently serving 80-100 kids and mothers.

School Supply Program

Education is key focus for our ministry. Unfortunately, education isn’t valued for families in rural areas. Because of the level of poverty, parents often require their children to quit school and work before 6th grade. Our goal is to share the importance of education especially how it relates to poverty. Education is a primary factor in helping people escape poverty. One of our main projects is our Education Sponsorship program that provides kids shoes, backpack, and school supplies. Over the years, we have provided supplies to almost 1,000 kids. The ministry also provides scholarships that enable kids to continue their education beyond 6th grade. The scholarship provides a uniform, books, and necessary school supplies.

Medical Clinic

The ministry constructed a medical clinic in El Sitio that opened in May of 2016. Access to medical care is a challenge in many of the rural areas of Guatemala. There are limited medical professionals and facilities along with a cultural tendency to rely on non-traditional medical treatments. The clinic will have a doctor ½ day each week and will provide low-cost medical services. A major component of our medical clinic will be education. We hope to educate the community on things like clean water, nutrition, personal hygiene, dental care, and many other things.
